Mardouw Olive Estate is located at the foot of the LangebergMountains in the middle of the Garden Route. The farm is situatedabout 200km from Cape Town. In 1795 the farmers of Swellendamdeclared themselves independent with Hermanus Steyn chosen to bethe president of this new Republic, but his rein did not last longand Swellendam returned to its original status. On the MardouwEstate you will find the grave of Hermanus Steyn. Every journey begins with a single step. Mardouw Olive Estate tookthe first step in 2002, and now with many moments gone by ourproducts are an ode to our history, a tribute to our heritage, amemento of our evolvement. The Verder family bought the 1000ha landfrom the Van Eeden brothers. The land was made up of vineyard andvarious other fruits, but is now home to the most beautiful olivetrees. One of South Africa's Agricultural Research Council's oliveresearch specialists confirmed that the soil on Mardouw wa*cellent for growing olives. The soil together with theMediterranean-like climate conditions made for perfect growingconditions for premium quality olives, especially Kalamata andMission.
